продовольственные талоны
Талоны, выдаваемые нуждающимся гражданам страны в рамках социальной программы. Обмениваются в магазине только на продовольственные товары; ни табачные изделия, ни алкогольные напитки на них получить нельзя. Выдачей ведает Министерство сельского хозяйства [Department of Agriculture, U.S.] через каналы местных отделов социального обеспечения. До 1977 талоны приходилось покупать, но стоили они значительно дешевле, чем продукты, которые на них можно было получить. С 1977 по решению Конгресса США, ужесточившего требования к лицам, имеющим право на их получение, продовольственные талоны распределяются бесплатно. Право на получение талонов автоматически предоставляется почти всем, на кого распространяются программы "Помощь семьям с детьми-иждивенцами" [Aid to Families with Dependent Children] и "Добавочные пособия малоимущим" [Supplemental Security Income]. Программы помощи неимущим в виде выдачи продуктов питания из государственных запасов [food surplus] возникли во времена "Нового курса" [New Deal]
